Formbay began by digitising STC submissions — replacing paperwork with a smarter, faster way to process solar installs.

Today, we’re the leading platform for clean energy job validation and compliance in Australia, powering large-scale electrification across solar, batteries, air conditioning, and beyond.

Our ISO 27001-accredited platform supports field installers, portfolio managers, manufacturers, and government — providing real-time validation, audit readiness, and full product traceability.

A brief history

Formbay founder Dan Sullivan, developed his tech and web design craft at Telstra and CBA before leading technology in the pioneering stages of carbon trading — and ultimately building Australia’s leading clean energy compliance platform.

  • Founded in 2010 in Sydney, Australia.

    Formbay started as a digital platform for the solar industry, enabling solar installers/aggregators to submit solar paperwork digitally direct from their worksite to Government agency, the Clean Energy Regulator (CER).

    2010

  • Launch of Formbay to the Australian solar industry. Providing the first STC compliance focused field app for solar installers, allowing them to scan serials, take photos and capture electronic signatures

    2011

  • Partnership with TVS

    Processes over 260k STC

    Hit 12 million STCs processed

    Surpasses 1800 account holders

    Formbay 2 goes into beta trial with selected clients

    2012

  • Formbay 2.0 Launched. API, Victorian Grid Connection and QLD Electrical Certificate features released

    2013

  • Updated App with reliable data capture improvements. Released Remote signing request for Formbay solar clients. JSA, customer acknowledgement form digitised

    2014

  • Released Remote signing request for Formbay installers on the app. SWSMs, risk assessment, warranty, finance (certegy) digitised for Formbay solar clients.

    2015

  • Improved compliance process that improved processing times and minimises fraud risks. New pricing/timeframe tiers. Upgrade Formbay security to make data at rest and in motion secure.

    2016

  • ABA Award for Best Business Technology and Best Continuous Improvement.

    ISO 9001 certification.

    Build of Solar Panel Validation (SPV)

    2017

  • Formbay Prism AI and Machine Learning founded

    Distributed Asset Register (DER) integration launched in collaboration with AEMO

    SPV Launch

    2018

  • Formbay Solar Website and company structure following deep customer consultation

    2019

  • Gained ISO 27001 Accreditation for Information Security

  • Beta launch of SPA, Formbay's new customer job management, compliance and trading portal
